How to spot them
The impression is recognisably of blossom, not of fruit and not of resin. Everything else is decided by the single flower.

- Rose – cool or jammy, depending on the build
- Jasmine – full, almost animalic
- Lily of the valley – green, clear, only available synthetic
- Tuberose – creamy, loud, room-filling
Why the family is so wide
Floral is the only family defined by flowers rather than by effect.
So it holds fragrances that have almost nothing to do with each other.
How to tell it from its neighbours
Blossom sits in the middle. What decides is what lies beneath it and how loudly it is set.
Soft floral
Powder and aldehydes over the blossom. Quieter, cooler, more classic.
Floral amber
Resin under the blossom. Sweeter, heavier, more for the evening.
Fruity
Fruit instead of blossom. Often mixed; what leads is whatever runs the last two hours.
When blossom works
Blossom reads stronger in warmth, because the molecules lift faster. What was discreet yesterday is clear today.
There is no evidence for this: neither retail nor manufacturers state occasion or season. Anyone sorting by them is guessing. That is why neither enters our scoring.
What the concentration changes
Eau de toilette, eau de parfum and extrait differ in the share of fragrance oil, rising in that order. More oil usually means longer wear.
Fixed percentage limits are not laid down in law, and the houses disagree. So ask about the concentration, not about the price.
Where the limit is
Jasmine and tuberose carry compounds that can tip animalic on warm skin. Same bottle, two impressions.
